I’m Katie McBride (also known as bloodsugar and Blue Water)—a composer, producer, singer, and philosopher. My work comes from a deep fascination with both inner life and the mysteries of existence. I make music that lives in the space between things—between genres, between emotions, between waking and dreaming. Electronic and ambient at its core, my sound sometimes leans toward pop and sometimes dissolves away from it.

I began as a trumpet player and studied jazz and composition at Humber College in Toronto. After school, I was drawn to digital music—the openness of it, the way a song can expand into a world. Ableton became my primary instrument, and my practice naturally grew to include visual art, video, and scoring for film and television.

My influences range from Björk and William Basinski to Aphex Twin and Miles Davis—artists who treat sound as both material and meaning. Texture, memory, and atmosphere are recurring themes in my work, but I’m equally drawn to pulse and movement, those places where stillness becomes momentum.

I’ve released several EPs and three albums, including THE ANGELS ARE CALLING (2024) and RHODO (2025), a record centered on transformation, light, and release. I also compose scores for film and television, approaching every project with the same philosophical question that guides all my work: what does it feel like to be here, and how can sound reveal what we can’t see?
